I Can Only Imagine.....
Imagine a place where people of almost every imaginable background come together for one common purpose--to grow closer to Jesus Christ. Sounds like a paragraph plucked straight from the pages of the Book of Acts. In that era, the new followers of Christ sacrificed everything (reputation, status, career, etc.) to draw near to the Man from Galilee. They served side by side, meeting the compassion needs of the poor and oppressed. They fearlessly shared the life-transforming message, despite the retributions of the religious establishment. They spent unhurried time in each other's homes, simply "doing life" together. They prayed in earnest for needs that arose and chronicled the myriad ways God met them. While this was true in Acts, it is happening each week in the body life of First Assembly of God in Lyndhurst, Ohio. We truly believe the Bible is as relevant today as it was when the ink was drying on their first God-inspired manuscript. We live our lives by the truth we find in its pages. Jesus Himself said, "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (cf. John 8:32, NIV.) Imagine a place where people are finding new freedom to live in daily--from bondage to breakthrough. Imagine a place where God's Word is honored as the only lasting change agent. Imagine a place where prayers are being offered for a greater outpouring of the Holy Spirit to rival the Azusa Street revival in Los Angeles 100 years ago. Imagine a place that emphasizes reaching the lost and unconvinced--across the street as well as across the seas. You don't have to imagine; you can experience it firsthand at First Assembly of God.
Jesus came to change the way we live... to help us succeed, enable us to overcome our problems, and make us
better people... people that would be caring, loving and kind. This is what our church is all about.
We love people... and are doing our best to lift up the Lord Jesus Christ and the teachings of the Word of God that will make a real difference in lives.
At First Assembly you will find a diverse congregation from virtually every social
and ethnic background. You will find people with an enthusiastic love for the Lord and for each other! It's more than a church... it's a family. Imagine that!

Affiliation
& History
First Assembly is affiliated with the General Council of the Assemblies of
God. The church was founded by Rev. D.W. Kerr in 1911 as the
Pentecostal Church of Cleveland, located on White Avenue. Later in 1917,
the congregation affiliated with the Assemblies of God, and then changed
their name to First Assembly of God in 1925. Over the years, the congregation served as a major
influence in Cleveland and northern Ohio, helping to raise up or influence
scores of churches, missionaries, and ministers throughout the Midwest. One
of its most notable pastors was Rev. Thomas F.
Zimmerman, who would become the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, a position he
held for more than 25 years. In 1964, First Assembly moved to the
Cleveland community of Lyndhurst, where it continues to this day.
